As the title states. I'm considering upgrading to the newer style coilpacks w/built in ignitors when my motor is finished.

If ya got some hanging out, let me know.

Thanks.

Just to give you a heads up, I know for a fact my buddy's '01 RS came equipped with the combo coil pack you desire. So that may expand your search opportunities. 8)

Really? We list plug wires and an individual coilpack for that year and model.

Anyway, I have a set from an 04 STI

$200 shipped

A 2001 RS, it has an "individual" coilpack like older NA cars

'01 RS had a coil pack... they had the phase II SOHC motor... with the weird plugs that sealed around the valve covers

OK guys. Perhaps I didn't explain well enough.

I am building a EJ20G based motor that will use 4 individual coil-on-plug coils. The original EJ20G coils are old, prone to failure, and are getting harder to find/replace. It is possible to upgrade them to the coils from any '02+ turbo model, which are now very common and (supposedly) a more reliable design.

These are the coils I was looking for. They happen to have the ignitors built in.

Splinter..thanks for the offer, but I have already found a set. :D

If you dont mind sharing, what did you pay for them? I'm not sure what they go for

I paid $100 + $25 shipping off Nasioc.

Prices seemed VERY random. There is a guy on fleaBay asking $75 per coil. $200 for the set is just slightly above what I saw as average. So your pretty good if your not in a hurry to sell.

For us guys upgrading EJ20Gs the real hard to find part is the connectors. GC/GF/GM swappers are keeping demand (and prices) on used WRX/STI harnesses elevated. I found a damaged harness, but we haven't agreed on a price yet.

Sorry, the pic was from a 2001 car show, of a 2002 MY RS.

My friend's 2000 RS 2.5 SOHC engine bay looks much the same as the pic, though.

I'm using a set off a 2005 STI on my EJ20K heads with great success.

the connectors are hard to find because they are VERY fragile. The clips break easily and the connectors fall off after they do. Ask me how I know this.

I'm trying to find an aftermarket part number for the plugs.

Sorry, I missed the fact he needed 4 and not 1. My point was that the ignitor is built into the '01 coil pack vs. and exterior ignitor like the early '99 and down have. (learned that the hard way while scouting through an engine bay for what was built into the coil pack)

I'll eventually need to go down this exact road for my EJ20G heads. They came with the JDM coil packs put as it's been stated, I can't find the matching connectors or locate info on how to get the 4 packs to fire as they should.

Jason, you've read the Sticky in the -Pre '02 turbo forum over at NastiCock? Rob has it written up very nicely.

Splinter..I've changed the plugs on my '02 WRX and don't recall breaking any. But it's entirely possible I never even unplugged them. :smt017

Doesn't the 02 WRX use a single coilpack?

Nope, all post-EJ22T USDM turbos have basically the same coils. Mine look just like the pic I posted above.

The prices are very random for newer coils. I saw 100-200 when I was in the market.

I was just lucky enough to find a WRX engine harness for cheap since Subaru doesn't sell individual connectors. $300 for an engine harness sucks since you only need four plugs.
