You can delete the whole ABS system....you just have to swap the hard lines under the hood over from a non-ABS model.

The flare is really what you need to make sure you get right. I believe it's a double angle flare or something a little wierd like that.

I think it honestly would be easier just to pick up a set of non-abs lines. I'm not sure of the brake line fitting thread size.

The master cylinder is different. The non-abs MC is only a 1" bore MC, and has two ports on it. The abs MC is a 1-1/16" bore MC, and has four ports on it. If you have upgraded brakes or even the two piston turbo legacy calipers, it would probably be prudent to keep the 1-1/16" bore MC.

The non-ABS SVX is the only 4-port 1-1/16" bore MC Subaru makes. You'll likely have to find a used one, or a reman'd one.

Also, the proportioning valves are different between ABS & non ABS cars.

Quick question, when converting from an ABS system to a non-ABS system - can you just put a plug in two of the ports on the MC and not have to mess with swapping out MC's?

It would be best to go to a JY and pull all the hard lines, the thingy on the passenger strut tower and the master cylinder.

At least thats what the person who did it to my car did... Cuz my legacy turbo doesnt have abs

Can the master cylinder be changed just by doing work within the engine compartment meaning I don't have to squeeze my fingers up under the dash to the pedal box assembly?

Nope. some of the bolts that hold it on there are attached to the pedal assembly. Also part of it is connected to the brakes by a pin(don't lost that little clips, its easy to do trust me...)

from what i understand the ABS MC is bigger ... there fore BETTER .. so i would keep it !

i have a plan to get rid of the ABS PUMP on my 94 legacy . But im not doing it now cuz there is like 4 in of snow here ..

my idea is to remove the ABS PUMP that is in my way ( im going to build a cone filter intake ) and just keep all the stock lines in place .. with some possible bending and or trimming ...

once the lines are where i want them i will simply connect the lines with some T fittings . making the system complete and all hard plumed with no big dumb pump while keeping the big MC and all the factory lines .

its crazy .. but it just might work ?

ALSO - if your just looking for a quick easy way to disable the ABS with out getting in to your lines .. just pull the ABS fuse !
the light will stay on .. but you will not have ABS. ;-)

My ABS and non-ABS masters were identical when side by side. So was the bore size.

The hard lines in the engine bay are so easy it would be dumb not to swap them out if you really want to get rid of the ABS. Buy yourself a 10mm flare-nut wrench and get crackin. Seriously.

THis was a AWD 5mt car to an auto FWD car. I probably should have added that.

I really dont have anywhere to go get non abs lines anyway ..
and dont feel like ordering from subaru $$$$
so whatever works !

Dan, you sure your non-abs MC is 1-1/16" bore?

The only 4-port 1-1/16" bore MC that I'm aware of is on the non-abs SVX's. So if you had one, it was either replaced at some previous time, or one of those Subaru oddities.

No, you're right. I got confused as to what MC's I actually had out, lol. Too many parts laying around and I forget what everything was actually from.

Both were non-ABS units and were what, 15/16 if that sounds right.

Non abs on the legacies should be 1"

15/16" I believe were on non-abs rear drum equipped Imprezas.

I'm gonna do this conversion as well. Was planning on just bending my own brake lines.

The ABS pump was removed, and then the appropriate lines were T'ed and coupled together.

I am just going to run all new lines and a summit proportioning valve when I delete mine.

proportioning valve ????

im talking to the guys on another thread about the rear prop valve ... what are your intentions with the summit valve ?

* do not mess with the rear brake proportioning valve *

I intend on running the Valve in the line for the rear brakes so I can adjsut them properly so the back end isn't (or is) tail happy.

I did the exact same thing on my old 4runner and it worked great, and I cut out all the factory BS.
