What Trannys will work in a 92 Legacy 2.2 FWD non turbo?

Sorry forgot to mention it was an auto matic tranny. Are fwd and awd interchangable?

got a chance to buy a 98 forester tranny for $100 will it work in 92 fwd auto legacy?

FWD and AWD use different axles, IIRC, which may be an issue. Not sure if you can run the AWD in FWD w/out the FWD fuse under the hood that puts the AWD in FWD mode for 'diagnosis' mode. Unlikely yours has the fuse.
The Forester tranny uses different electronics...even though the plugs may match. Would be stuck in 'limp' mode and maybe have 3rd gear.

You can't run an automatic trans in a car meant for AWD unless you convert everything else to AWD.
You may be able to swap the rear extension housing of the two transmissions, but that's just a theory, I haven't heard of anyone doing that....
