What the hell, dusting off the old studio mic.

Well since I have been without work and my consulting business has not really taken off I figured I'd get back into the studio. I'll give you all the history real quick.
My screen name here "MagicMike" comes from when I was around 25 years old (almost 10 years ago). Me and a really good friend of mine Jay "J Smooth" started this little fun part time project we called the Playa Pimp Possee. Jay is literally a lyrical genius. He writes the funniest rap lyrics you have ever heard. Now this was before that Ludacris fellow started with his funny songs but right around the time Eminem was popular.
I was working at Tweeter inc at the time, a consumer electronics store for you non new englanders. I had to go to a training and when I went a guy there we went to lunch and he let me listen to "his" cd that he made with some friends. I couldn't believe that with a home computer you could produce a descent sounding song. The software he was using was Acid Pro 1.0. I got a version right away and started buying up loop cd's at about 50 bucks each! This software was awesome. Any old boob like me could put tracks together and come up with some good royalty free music.
I would basically work on tracks during the week and would write my own funny lyrics myself. We'd get together at my moms house where I had setup a little recording area with a pretty descent microphone going through a tube amp for some warmth and into the digital sound card on the computer.
Thursdays were the night we would go out. This was before Jay got married and had 3 kids of course. I'm still single as all of you know. We would get together around 6pm and start putting some lyrics to the different samples I had created. We would be drinking and laughing our asses off. We basically created a new song every week and made a CD.
We loved what we were doing. We really enjoyed it and basically did it for ourselves. We would give CD's to everyone we saw. None of this selling shit. We just wanted everyone to hear our stuff.
We sent out demo CD's to a bunch of labels and I heard back from one in NYC but they were a bit shady I thought.
So flash forward to now.
I recently acquired the new version of the acid software. Sony bought them out a few years back and sow the latest version is 7.0. There are a ton of new features and plug-ins etc that I have been trying to figure out. I also just got some new loops that are from the old school drum machines so I'm working on some tracks with the old roland 808 beats. Its coming along well.
Me and Jay are going to get together for a comeback song and this time I'm going to make up a new website and get the songs on there for sale for a buck i-tunes style. Maybe I can at least make back the initial investment of all this equipment.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know what I was working on while I'm getting unemployment lol.
If you want to hear some of our original songs we have a Myspace music page.
