Hello. Picked up a 94 legacy ss and am doing a tune up because i don't know how its been maintained. What i want to know is how you guys feel about the parts i've purcased and if there's anything else i should do to it. I'm curious if the turbo model should have higher grade parts on it? This is what i got. NGK copper v groove plugs. Some $23 plug wires, (its the only ones schucks had), fram fuel filter, fram pcv valve. 5/30w chevron oil w/ fram extra guard. I also got a bottle of seafoam because the car has a rattle that won't shut up, there is another thread on that. Its titled "94 Legacy Sport RATTLE??‏" if you wanna add your input. I'm planing to ad 1/3 seafoam to the intake, 1/3 to crank case, and 1/3 to fuel tank. Are these poor quality parts for the car? I didn't wanna order online cuz i wanted my parts now. I'm excited about having it purrr. The car is a 5 spd 218K miles. Feel free to add some other tips on things i should change or ad. Thank you all very much.

Dunno if turbos are different but I know on mt NA 5w30 is NOT recommended, 10w40 is the correct weight. Might be different for turbos though...

The difference between 5w30 and 10w30 is the cold temperature viscosity. The 5w30 is fine in cold temps.



As far as the PCV valve goes, I'd consider buying an OEM valve. The NAPA valve I bought leaks under pressure where the OEM valve does not. This was tested with mouth pressure.

I was just going off what it said in the manual saying that 5w30 is only for extreme cold and older engines could use a heavier oil. Just look in the manual.

I use the 5W30 in the winter and 10W30 in the summer. I use the Valvoline Semisynthetic in all my higher milage Subarus with no problems.

Never use the Fram regular filter, I think the TG Fram is better.

Change the transmission/front diff and rear diff fluid, fuel filter.

I use the NKG one step colder plugs for my turbo car.

Check the timing belt for cracks by removing one of the cam pulley covers....if there are any cracks or belt looks old, replace the belt along with water pump and idler pulleys....I grenaded an idler pulley at 220K on my SS. You can also rebuild your oil pump while doing the T-belt....fairly easy to take apart and clean.

The valve covers are probably leaking if have not been done yet, so if you don't like it to smell like burnt oil, replace those.

All that can be done with minimal tools and a good start to learn how to work on your car.
