Anyone really know why?

Subaru isn't participating in WRC because of engine requirements for this year and the money involved in WRC participation.

Ford is.

How could they do those stupid engine regulations? That's like foul play. I can't believe they did that. Force out one of the most recognized rally manufacturers in the world.

They couldn't have thought that subaru was just going to abandon the boxer engine and build a whole new engine!

what exactly are the requirements or does anyone know?

I thought I read it was something like an inline 4 cylinder motor and a bunch of other shit.

IIRC it's a spec transmission that all teams will use. It's a transverse inline based transmission, so no Boxer motor.....leads to no Subaru participation.

kinda like when they changed F1 so that the mazda 787b was excluded, AKA no rotarys.

lame.

...not that Subaru has been competitive recently, anyway.
I read somewhere that Subaru might be considering a Justy-type vehicle to comply w/ the new spec rules. But I think that is unlikely.

FIA is all about the money, and who cares what the people that watch the events care about.

Rally isnt what it was for a long time now, pretty much when people stop getting killed regularly things become lame and crappy.

There was never a rotary in F1. The Mazda 787B was a sports prototype.

This rally BS is all in the name of reducing costs since a bunch of big manufacturers pulled out in the last several years. Subaru hasn't even been competitive in WRC anyway, so it was probably an easy choice. Look at their record sales of boxer-engine Camrys and their new matching demographic and there's absolutely no reason spend that kind of money on something nobody will even notice or care about, winning or not. If necessary, they can always be like plenty of other manufacturers and talk up their past glories for decades after they stopped doing anything.

yea, I honestly dont pay attention to the new 08+ stuff and hardly even that. 06 is the newest Sti I would ever buy, but I don't plan on straying from Legacys. I will always have as many SS's I can get my hands on and would like a Spec B or GT for a DD

Yeah, that's a sports prototype. I remember them having problems with hot exhaust.

Subaru needs to just see their transverse gearbox, and raise with a mid engine. ;-)

pshhh.... I dunno man, I guess he is just doin what he has to do... but I have no intention of ever owning anything but a Subaru, its all I know, and all I want to know. But then again he just drives the cars, he doesnt have to spend countless hours makin it the way it is

I wonder if crooked-Monster-hat wearers will now drive a Focus/Fiesta to go shop for brightly colored leather high tops? How long until a Focus claws through snow on tracks? This raises more questions than it answers.
