If you've been here a while, you know what this car has... one of the original mod pioneers. http://legacycentral.org/centric/members/matt.htm
After 9 years, it's time to move on.

Car has one or more leaking fuel injectors causing hard starting. It has 440 greytops.

http://s243.photobucket.com/albums/ff28 ... y%20SS-RA/

Older shots in there, I need to get some updated pictures...

I started with a complete RS-RA engine from Japan... it's the original STI motor, handbuilt in very limited numbers, 2.0L with ported & polished heads, large bore exhaust mani, and unique ECU (later used in ver.4 STI). It didn't get far before it spun a bearing, I ended up rebuilding with a factory crate EJ257 short block, using all the rest of the original motor. I put on a TD05-16G turbo, which is slightly larger than the VF that came with the RA originally. I've never dyno'd it, but it hauls ass. ACT clutch. All the motor mounts and strut mounts are Grp A spec. OEM 5MT short shift w/ poly bushing, Whiteline comfort ALK, rear swaybar & mount, front swaybar is from a Tribeca. Cusco lower brace. Front STI aluminum control arms, WRX brakes front and rear, Goodridge braided brake lines. TMIC from early WRX, cold air intake w/ K&N filter. WRX ignitors adapted to work in the early heads (coil-on-plug). 3" exhaust from wastegate to muffler, has twin-tip Brullen w/ rolled, angled tips, very classy, looks stock but bigger. 3" hi-flow cat, always passes emssions!

Interior
WRX front seats in black leather, new black carpet, black door panels and trim, black dash (not available in '91). Red stitch 22B steering wheel, shift knob & boot, and e-brake lever. Boost gage & tweeter in pillar pod. Tinted windows. All-weather floormats. New Panasonic 2-DIN stereo plays MP3 discs, sounds great. Sunroof was removed and completely resealed and lubed, no leaks at all, works perfect. Rear seat has leather bottom, but back is still original, I never got to finish the work...I have all the materials to complete it.

Exterior
solid black paint 5 yrs old, blacked out trim. Pass. rear door replaced this summer, still a different color, nds paint and a dent pulled behind the door (parking lot hit & run) I have a quart of paint & supplies to go with it.
Only real rust issue is the rocker panel right in front of the rear wheels, and one small hole in the usual spot left bumper/qtr panel join bolt, been reamed out and treated w/ POR-15.
Brand-new EDM glass H4 headlights and EDM side lights, with turn signals intergrated. I have Hella FF-100 driving lights mounted in the stock signal holes. Rear signals have the amber lenses removed. Roof trim is a little beat up, I have a full extra set. Paint is OK, but needs some attention, trim black is fading in spots.

list of mods...besides the engine.

Car has a total of 198K, engine has only 10K miles. Original engine install & wiring done at East Coast Swappers in Mass. www.eastcoastswappers.com

Walbro 255 fuel pump
ACT street clutch & pressureplate, & new throwout bearing
NEW hydraulic clutch cylinder (last one in the US)
WRX brakes
Goodridge SS brake lines
KYB GR-2 struts on stock springs
Whiteline:
Rear adjustable swaybar
Rear HD swaybar mounts
Comfort Anti-Lift Kit
Tribeca OEM front swaybar (26MM) w/ new mount bushings
STI front aluminum control arms
Perrin rear & front endlinks
Cusco underbody front suspension brace and billet fender corner braces (made a big difference in the chassis stiffness!)
Euro glass H4 headlights & sidemarkers (brand new old stock from Holland) w/ city lights
and adjuster motors, switch mounted but not wired
WRX-style hood scoop & SS mesh screen
Hella FF100 driving lights
Impreza 22B steering wheel w/ STI logo & red stitching (RARE)
Medium tinted windows
WRX leather seats
Black interior from '94 turbo (dash is original '91, I removed it and spray-dyed it black)
red-stitch shift knob, boot & e-brake handle
New carpet
All-weather floormats
'05 WRX rims w/ Nokian Hakkas (205/55-16) Best snow tire available.
Sunroof resealed & lubed NO LEAKS
Hella Supertone horns
VDO boost gauge
Panasonic 2-din AM/FM CD MP3/WMA & weatherband
Infinity speakers
Panasonic separate tweeters in front
Power antenna switch
A/C compressor new last summer
3" exhaust & hi-flow cat
Brullen twin-tip muffler
de-ambered rear turn signals (orange bulbs installed)
Front turn signals integrated into side markers
KOYO all-aluminum racing radiator
all-new coolant hoses

Included with the car;

Full set of replacement roof/window trim
air/water intercooler and pump
HAWK HPS brake pads in box (doesn't need them yet, but they are better pads than stock)
-I have lots of little bits laying around, the front fender trim, replacement door seals, etc., all of it comes with the car. Just have to find everything, LOL...

Issues with car:

Fuel pressure leak-down, sometimes hard starting
ABS light on
Needs new bolts for swaybar endlinks
Minor rust at rear rockers and small hole in rt rear quarter where it meets bumper (treated, but not filled)
Interior lights inop (shorted wire, pops fuse)

Man.......Really? Selling....

I almost bought that engine also, but only for the heads. ECS and I couldn't agree on a price, mostly because of shipping to the West coast. Who ended up getting the short block? ECS or you?

Good luck with the sale. Good price. I'm sure it will find another good home.

bump for a special SS

you need to put a sound track of this motor in the post.

this is one of the sweet sounding SS I ever heard.

p.s. how's the wagon doing?

be well, Bepa GLWS

Just saw Ericem selling a set of greytops... maybe I can get it back in better running shape.

I WAS going to bag a Spec B... I passed on it. Smoker interior and just felt odd to drive, been beaten hard I think, I wasn't getting a warm & fuzzy sitting in it. Not for $21K, that's for sure. Gonna keep looking.

Deep down, I don't want to sell the '91, but I definitely need a more consistently reliable car for commuting. My garage is crammed full with VW stuff, there's just no space right now.
I'm not giving it away tho. ;-)

Dan, the wagon had to go away, unfortunately. The trans gave up. SOmeone here has it as a shell... again the space issue kept me from realizing that particular dream. I have GOT to get that van back on the road.

Phyrra, ECS sent out the original block for machining immediately, I never got the chance to get it back... The 2.5 is an absolute joy, though, it has enough off-boost torque to make it perky in town & traffic, then peels your eyelids back on boost. 8)

Wow. That's a steal for this car. The engine alone has had $4000 put into it in the last year. Someone give this car a good home.

dang, that's a great car.

what kind of ecu and any modification by using the 2.5?

thanks.

Using the stock RS-RA ECU, not the SS box. Higher boost and fuel cut. I think it's the same as a ver.4 STI (?)

The 2.5 shortblock is basically a bolt-in... it's the EJ257 STI block, semi-closed deck. You can order it from Subaru for less than $2K.

having saw this car in person and listen to it, i wish I could sell my 97 impreza OBS, 92 SS and a 99 OBS auto. even just the 97 OBS + 92 SS 5 mt. do not think I could sale them fast enough to get this rare SS.

if you are thinking about this get it before Jerry changes his mind. yet I know what he means you just wanta change up.

my MB 55 helps me with that. put a trailer on it and go tow something. nothing like it.

Ha, yeah I wish I could bolt a snow plow blade to it...

Still haven't replaced the injectors, I just can't get motivated to work out in the cold... got a rebuilt set from Ericem.

Technically it's still for sale, if anyone wants to come over and look, you're certainly welcome.

Just pop them in, it's very easy, 2 screws, wiper injectors and spin them around until they pop out, pop in new ones and make sure they are FULLY seated then put the cover on 2 screws :) What's up with your injectors?

Leaking, big time. Floods out if it sits more than 10-15 minutes. They are the originals from the RS-RA. I've been unplugging the fuel pump to stop the engine when I'm done driving.

hey Jerry bring the injectors and the car and I would help or I can just put them in.

your car is to nice to be unplugging the fuel pump in this weather. I feel bad that you are doing it that way.

let me know, be well, Bepa
