Car started but didn't run

SO yesterday I had a little scare on my roadtrip with my 91 SS. I stopped for lunch and when I started the car afterwards it would start but die immediately after letting off the accelerator. I checked all hoses ans connections and nothing was off. When I tried to rev it and move in 1st gear....is seemed to bog and died. After that it started and ran fine.

10 minutes later on the highway in 5th gear, it started to stumble and lose power slowing down....I shifted into 3rd and when the turbo spooled it had power. When I went back to 5th gear and out of boost, it started to bog again. Downshifted into boost again and bask to 5th.....problem gone. The issue has not returned yet.

I am concerned because I am on my trip for the next 2 weeks and am away from most of my tools and places to source Subaru parts easily.

Any ideas where I should try to start my trouobleshooting?

Almost sounds like some of the issues I had with a bad MAF sensor.

I would try cleaning the IAC as this is the bypass valve for air when the throttle is closed, like idle or I guess when you shift if you let of the throttle all the way. Sounds like it might be sticking, just my thoughts, but I have an auto.

Good luck, Brian

Ok...the car started doing this again. Starts but dies righ away. I can keep it going by giving it gas. As soon as I put it in gear and start driving, it lurches and stumbles. When this is happening it is running way lean....like 19:1 AFR.

When I let it sit and try later, it starts fine and runs good.....I'm so frustrated.

Could it b the water temp sensor?
I will try swapping the MAF to see if that is causing it.
Anything else I should try?

Bump. Was it the fuel pump?
