No boost and stops at 3k

I hit a deer awhile back it didn't do any damage to the frame just destroyed the passenger head light, corner light, fender and hood. I have a custom short ram intake that sits right behind the head light. I guess on impact it vibrated the inner cap on the cone air filter lose and sucked it through my intake/turbo.

I didn't realize this at the time because it didn't make any sound that day or for a good week after. Then outta know where it started. I got around to looking and it had sucked the piece through the maf screen and I couldn't find the piece anywhere in the intake system.

What the car is doing is that when I try to rev past 3k and go onto boost it hits a wall and no matter how much throttle I give it, it wont do anything. The speed/rpm will just slowly drop till I let off. I can sometimes rev past 3k on light acceleration, but also it sometimes will do what it does when I try to boost. The feeling is like boost cut, but it kicks in when there is no boost at all. If I take it outta gear it will rev past 3k, but when being driven it wont pass that trying to boost.

I look around and tried to find something on this, but no one really has had this issue that I could find. I thought possibly it could be the maf sensor because it could have been damaged when that piece went though the intake system. This didn't fix my problem, so I'm turning to you guys for help.

Yes the turbo has more shaft play. I looked at it and the fins didn't looked damaged surprisingly. It was a past piece that went through it. Any thoughts would be great thanks!

Oh there is also no CEL and I checked the codes and its just the purge that is registered in the ecu and it has been this way forever.

I wasn't sure where to exactly post this one since it's mulitple things.

I actually had the exact same thing happen on my old car, except I got EXTREMELY lucky and that plastic piece got stuck in a bend in the custom intake RIGHT before the turbo. I felt so lucky, because it was an expensive ass turbo. It didn't affect my actual MAF itself, just ripped through the screen. I find it really odd that you never heard any noise, and that nothing looks damaged. Did you check all of the piping and stuff leading from the filter to the turbo? Im wondering if it is blocking the air flow not allowing the turbo to spool up, cuz thats what mine did.

Did you replace the MAF? Or is it the same MAF?

All look again, but I looked it over pretty well the first time for the piece of plastic. I'm almost 100% sure it got eaten up because the turbo has a slight tick sometimes now and on start up the car burns some oil and then stops right after it runs for 5 seconds.

Oh and yes I replaced the maf with another used one that was in working condition, forgot to say that sorry haha.

Yea, if its making crazy noises and stuff then it probably did get eaten up, that was the only thing I could think of though because thats what happened to mine, but like I said I got super lucky

Ya I don't think I got as lucky :( Any help would be great. I have yet to check to see if it is still stuck in my intake, but I doubt that, we will see tomorrow.

I finally got around to checking the intake system over and guess what I found. The piece that I thought had got sucked up. Only reason it didn't make it to the turbo is because of the shrinking in size the closer you get to the turbo. It was acting like a butterfly valve and every time I gave it to much throttle it was pretty much close off the intake line. Glad I found it, thanks guys for the help!

Still think the turbo needs a rebuild, but now I don't know why the ticking sound has come around.

hehe no problem... I COULD not find out what the issue was when it happened to me til I took off my filter, and the maf screen was ripped open.... I got a horrible feeling in my gut. Then I looked farther down the "inlet" and saw it whew! Good news tho, glad it didnt get sucked into your turbo!!

It's one of those stupid things you don't think about because it's outta the blue and suddenly your cars not working. I mean the maf was completely undamaged it just came lose and got sucked through... Sweet awesome cheap air filters.
