I really need to spend some time working on my transmission....
Anyways ive been looking for a wrx or turbo legacy transmission and cant find anything at all.
Here's the symptoms; 1St is Way to loud and sounds like there's stuff rattling inside, 2ND Grinds real bad when shifting, 3RD is starting to grind. Nuetral is makinga rattling sound as well unless te clutch is pressed in.
I Have searched and wasn't able to find much. What i would like is maybe just some detailed pics or write-up on how to rebuild a 5MT turbo legacy trans Unless someone wants to sell me a tranny.

Changing your driving style can make your synchro crunch a non-issue. The whine in first... Unless it's hard to talk over, I'd run it until it blows.
I've rebuilt several (6?) 5MTs now, I suppose I should do a writeup but I only have limited pictures. Just to crack open the case will cost you $400 (why pull it, open it up, and not replace the very front stabilizer bearing, the cone bearings, all the synchros and the seals?). If you have a bad bearing on a gear, and a few worn/chipped gears, your parts costs will get up near $1200 pretty fast.
However, transmissions from a very wide range of models and years will work in our cars, so there is no real need to rebuild, IMHO. My rebuilds were mostly academic because I'm a compulsive tinkerer.

I found a 1999 legacy GT trans for $450 in South Dakota on ebay.... 89k. You can get a good transmission for $300-$500 no problem. Pick and pulls around where I used to live had them for $89, ha.

Yes, but you need not necessarily replace it with a 1st gen t-leg tranny when so many others will work. Some 2nd gen impreza transmissions have 3.9 final drive, so you can avoid changing your rear diff if thats the worry. I ran a 98 outback trans for a while, didn't like the gearing though.

It depends on the model, you can find them with either. I see them on ebay allot though... In reality, almost any subaru transmission from 1989 up will work (maybe except the GL-style ones), so you have allot of options. Even those with 6 holes will apparently bolt-up to the 4-hole motor without issue.

yeah i remember the 6 hole thing. a friend of mine had a 2.5 rs with a 22t motor. 6 bolt style tranny and it bolted up.
