Dead Subi for now...

Well the time has come for my wagon to sleep until summer. I am not able to get it inspected due to an ABS problem which I am pretty sure is the pump and at least 1 wheel sensor, a shiftlock problem and a broken windshield, and no Cat so it wont pass emissions. I don't have the cash to fix all of this shit at the moment (still no job). My registration has expired because I did not get it inspected. So I'm parking it for now. I still can't bear to think about parting with this car for so little after what I put into it. I do love this car but it has very quickly turned into a total piece of shit. The two front fenders are rotted out at the bottom, the rear quarters need to be finished as I did not get them done before winter came.

The car is just a mess cosmetically. Don't get me wrong, she runs beautiful and strong as ever but I am just feeling like she had beat me for the moment.

What do fenders go for now? I paid $135 ea. around 1999 and undercoating before hand and high-pressure washing the shit out of the bottom of the wheel well has them still looking good (just some surface rust I wired off). With a welder, it wouldn't be hard to just form the bottom in new metal and weld it to the rest, either. Not that you're going to spend the money on them now, but whatever, I just like to read myself writing.

If you live in the north only one thing will overcome rust, oil.Do not bother with paints and undercoating b.s.Just get under there with a shitty brush and swab on old gear oil, cheap grease, spray everything 10 rimes with P.B. blaster whatever, its the only thing to battle salty water.

Full undercoating and annual touch up to the undercarriage of my wagon disagrees with you. The only rust is on the untreated sections. I've been amazed at how little rust I actually have. Not that oil and grease don't work—my engine compartment's good condition is testament to that!

You may be surprised what lies underneath some of the "treated sections".I have myself been very fooled.

I've stripped several sections of the car and have only been surprised as to what isn't underneath.

Me too, only what wasnt underneath was the metal. On certain places(on subarus especially) too good of a seal is bad. There are places like up inside the rear strut tower where by poor design there is a reverse shingle kind of effect that directs water into the metal structure-which causes the famous front area of rear quarter panel rust on these cars.I have seen underbodies with so many coats of pretty looking undercoating that the dry undercoating took on the shape of the structure that is supposed to be there-kind of like the bodies of those people trapped by hot ashes in pompeii...only the inside is empty.

Is this thread sufficiently off topic yet? :D

I have 3 ABS wheel sensors... and might be talked out of my spare ABS unit (if it's the right one for yours).
Let me know if your intersted.. I'm currently working only part time, so I feel your pain.
