We just finished putting everything together after the head gasket has blown on my 93 turbo 5sp sedan. My buddy says that the car should run with just only the fuels lines hooked up. it doesnt want to so what could the problem be

what do you mean? running without sensors hooked up or just the cannister disconnected.

did you do your timing belt correctly? there is two marks on the crank sprocket, alot of people do this wrong. you want to use the mark on the back of the sprocket.

My guess is you don't have the intake tube from the MAF to the throttle body in place, do you? Your buddy must be a Honda guy, they run off of a MAP sensor so they run that way. Big difference between MAP and MAF based systems.

BTW, these are only assumptions, we need more details in order to really help yo out. And Honda guys tend to get confused when working on things that are not like Hondas, so that's where that came from.

Yeah, you need all the hoses in place otherwise the air metering system won't know how much air is entering, thereby giving either too much or not enough fuel, resulting in no start, or poor running depending on how many "leaks" are in the system.
