EJ22 automatic ECU vs. 5 speed ECu

Post by bangedlegacywagon97 »

EJ22 automatic ECU vs. 5 speed ECu from the the same model year.

My ECU needs to be changed out and I am able to source only auto ECUs at the moment.
I remember reading somewhere that I can convert an auto ECU to a 5 speed ECU. Is it possible and what does it entail? help out a noob

I have an MT ecu if you need it, but you should be able to run the auto one without a problem.

ECU's should be the same. TCU and Cruise computers are different. You only need to clip a wire in the harness if you're doing a 4EAT -> 5MT swap (josh's site has all the writeup details).

What year car do you have?

Depending on the model year, some ECU's are the same between MT & AT.

I have a 94 Manual and had to put an Auto ECU in because the stock had no port for the Revtronix chip, it had some home made chip in it, but it runs just the same. By the way what the hell is this home made chip?

I tried the [img][/img] but couldn't get it to work whatever i did. Don't i just click the Img button and put the URL in between them?

Any ways though ya it sure isn't a professional job and i don't think it does anything. The idiot who had the car before was a little ricer and put on of those formula style spoilers on the back and destroyed the trunk and did more make it look wal-mart fast mods than actually improving the car at all.

Any one seen that done before though?

Ya for some reason I didn't think of looking at that, but it looks like it's connected to...

B48.2 Power Supply (Red Wire)
B48.4 MAP Sensor (Green Wire)
B48.4 Map Sensor (Yellow Wire)
B48.11 Control System Ground (Black Wire)
B56.11 Jurisdiction ID (Blue Wire)

B48.4 the prong was split in half and it's like the green wire is input to the chip and yellow is the output. Now the Blue wire is tied to the smaller red wire and is soldered to the board.

Why would they want to modify the map signal and not the maf? Perhaps it was some way of changing boost cut?

I'd be willing to be money that's what it was for.
Looking at the board, there's a potentiometer there ( the blue rectangle on the right side of the aftermarket PCB). A lot of "DIY" MAP sensor clamps use the potentiometer to dial in the peak/max MAP signal voltage so as to stay just below fuel cut (5v)

Pretty creative way to implement the solution if you ask me!
