Slipping clutch, and other drivetrain q's. 90' 1.8GL NA MT

hello. im back with a new keelhaul thread! sorry if my writing is messy and just nonsense :p i should be in bed now.
this time it's about my clutch. in the last weeks, ive noticed it's started slipping a bit when i accelerate.
when i have the car in first gear and release the clutch fast, it takes 1 sec. until my car is dead.
when im accelerating, i notice it most in third and fourth gear. i have no problems accelerating from 50 mph to 85 mph on the highway. it takes a while, weak motor, but cant see it slipping there when i floor the gaspedal. i have about 3.5k rpm normally at 60mph
in third of fourth gear, i can jam the gaspedal to the floor and the RPM is rising fast and high, and the speedometer comes a while after, but when the clutch "grips", it seems like it holds and dont slip more. my car can easily take me up slopes in 4th while lying on 2k rpm.
when i played with my car on the snow yesterday, i had it in second gear and spun big circles with the gas pedal hugging the floor.
it smelt like a welding-workshop for 15 minutes in my car after that. not good ;P
my gearshifting is smooth and nice, i think my gearbox is in good condition. its never hard to get in gear.
now for my questions: do you think this is just a bad clutch, or can it be something with my tranny?
do you suggest i change stuff now, or do you think it can last a while longer? it hasnt made any problems for me yet.
will a bad clutch increase my fuel consumption significantly?
when im cruising and slowing down for a red light, my idle goes up and down from 500 rpm-1k rpm, on warm motor. what can this be?
is it a clutch wire on these cars, and if so, can i tighten it, or can i risk damaging something nasty?
and finally, is it very hard and expensive to change clutch on the AWD system? some friends of me said so, but i dont trust their car knowledge much.
and one more thing, if youve come this far: is this system http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limited-slip_differential
on my old 90' leggy? can that be the cause of slipping, and is it normal?
thank you for taking your time reading this.
