I lost defrost?

I swapped out my heater fan tonight so I had heat again, only to find it will only blow out the dash vents! I can change all the heat settings but it doesn't move the flaps to divert the air. Of coarse this is on my girlfriends '90 LS with auto climate control, just to make it difficult! I wish this had the normal HVAC system!

When I got my first legacy I had the same problem. It would only blow out of the defrost. The door wasn't moving. I could hear it clicking as it tried to move. I fondled it under the dash a bit and it worked but I found that it still did it from time to time and it helped to change up the settings a lot.

On auto climate control? I find it too coincidental that it took a sh*t at the same time I changed fans. I've had this car for about three years and it never acted up before.
