I got the tank in. The one and only problem was their is another valve on the wrx tank that needs modified.. I put in the wrx tank everything was fine until I went to fuel up.. it wouldn't except gas, it would just kick off the fuel station pump.. So I had to take it all back apart and took the valve that i belive was in the top center, some sort of pressure valve, I carefully drilled out the very bottom.. Put it back together and never had anymore problems..

It was better than weilding the holes in my old tank.. But that's just my opinion...

I mite have pics somewhere, but if u get a wrx tank I could help u thru it so u don't have the troubles That I had..

Pics would help but I will be doing this along with my swap. My tank has a timed lifeline so probably in the summer sometime. Pics would help but I have an idea of what you are talking about. The older gastanks have like 3 lines going along the filler neck that you should have connected the pressure valve somehow to them but you would need a diagram for both cars fuel system.

here is a little write up on what i did.. there might be another way, but this seems to work out just fine.. trust me, you dont want to put the tank in, and take the tank out, and put the tank in, like i ended up having to do.. i tried a few things before i fianally figured it out..

as you can see, the wrx and legacy tanks are very simialar, and you can also see where i ended up having a leak in my tank.. as long as you have both tanks side by side you shouldnt have any problems with the hoses.. the wiring is plug and play.. i belive their is another small sensor near the center, i just capped it off with a piece of hose and 10mm bolt, and didnt plug it in...

i couldnt get it to except gas down the fill neck with out modifing the center valve.. when you drill a hole in the bottom of the valve i belive a spring will come out, making it so the valve will let air blow through.. or you could probably saw the end off with a hack saw....

Is it necessary to keep the spring in and maintain air going through or is it ok if the spring is out?

It's been quite awhile. But I think I threw the spring away. Just make sure you can blow air thru both directions on that big center valve

Anything else I should know for this install before attempting it? Since my WRX tank will be going into a FWD model I was just gonna tee off all 3 lines and send it to the canister...

Are all the sensors plug and play? I'm about to start this and I feel like I have everything in place, just trying to mitigate the amount of surprises lol

yes tho I cant remember if I needed to extend the wires to reach the sensors..
and if your turning a front wheel drive into a all wheel drive you will need the awd gas tank wire harness.. I belive there is a couple more wires it disconnects from under the seat

The wiring harness is exactly the same between the FWD & AWD chassis.

I seem to recall needing to change it when I did my 2wd to awd swap.. Thought it was due to hump in awd tank versus no hump in 2wd tank. But I've been wrong before

The wiring runs on top of the tank and shouldn't make any difference whether the hump is there or not. Was there anything that you may have added on that would have caused the wiring to be different?

It was a while ago when I did it. Thought there was a second sensor cuz of the hump in the tank.

There is a second fuel level sensor on the driver's side, but as mentioned that runs on the top of the tank. The two sensors connect together and the wiring goes to the connector under the rear seat. As long as you have the stock wiring on the AWD tank you are good to go.

Here are a few pictures of the tank (not the best pics, but you can see the wiring harness)

Ok, it's almost go time, I just need some help with the following:

I know #3 obviously goes to the fuel filler neck. I need help regarding which is the other line that goes to the neck. Then I assume the rest of them all have to do with the evap system. This install is unique in that since it's going into a FWD. I'm teeing off the remaining three evap lines into one. Despite the fact that I've studied the diagrams over and over, I can't seem to figure out which is the other line that goes to the neck and which ones I need to tee off. Can anyone help me?

It looks like you have more hoses than i had on mine. Tho i am looking at this on my phone. The 3/4" ish hose will go to filler neck vent. If you have two. Then you mite want to t the two together

Well, I pulled the trigger and teed off lines 2, 4, and 5 to go to the neck. Made an adapter for line 1 to go to the charcoal canister. After a $125 WRX tank and $30 of fittings, hoses, and couplings, the only thing left to do is pray it works.

Will update when I get the car back...
