Removing Uppipe Heatshield

The heatshield on the uppipe has come loose and is rattling incessantly. The problem is that while it has come unsecured at each end, the two halves are still welded together so it just rattles around freely. Clamping it down with a stainless steel clamp worked for a while but it still rattles at certain RPMs.

Short of taking off the header and uppipe to remove the sucker, is there any tool/method/technique I should try to break the heatshield off? Unfortunately, with everything installed, it's a pretty awkward part of the car to work on.

Thanks.

Short of a cutting torch I doubt it's removable while installed. I used a big punch with a flathead chisel type end on it and a small sledge hammer to bust those welds apart and it was work and that was with it laying on the garage floor.

I did it with a sawzall and prybar. Not too bad. Just got to lodge the shield so it doesn't move around and than hack the weld, or drill with a long steel bit. Than pry the on side apart, and rotate it around the upipe. I did it when my downpipe was off the turbo however...

dremel with a cutting wheel would work pretty good

Well after five hours of bending, pulling, grinding, banging and coaxing the sucker is finally off and no more rattle! Oh, the joys of owning an older car...

Is it just me or are new Stanley tools junk, my experiences with some of their recent stuff have been poor.
