Hi does anyone know what the operating temperature of a 1991 legacy 2.2 FWD? Also does anyone know what the temperature is by judging it off of the gauge. By this I mean when the gauge is at 1/4 or 1/2 whats the temperature? And finally at what temperature does the thermostat open? I know its a lot of questions but I can really use the help. Thanks! :D

IRC, the thermostat opens around 175*F. The cooling fans come on at 205*F. Normal operating temperature is between 180*F and 205*F. I typically sit around 185*F when cruising and it rises sitting at lights.

As far as the gauge on the dash - I wouldn't/don't trust it beyond having a warm engine and having a waaay hot engine. My experience is that it is not reliable/repeatable in terms of relating a position to an actual temperature.

The gauge on the dash doesn't move when the temp is from around 160 degrees until about 220 so yeah its not that usefull

Skid542 how are you watching the temperature?

Lee's temps are accurate. He's probably watching them with Vikash's scan tool. Those are the temps I see when I hook up to the computer with the select monitor. Vikash's scan tool reads the same data.
