ok well i ended up with an '04 sti tank and pump... everything fits and works except the gas gauge.. any ideas??

You will likely need to swap over the main fuel sender and/or double check the wiring.

the main fuel sender meaning my orignal pump and brackets (pass side)??? or the other unit on driver side?

Without know how the sti fuel sender is setup, I'm guessing it's similar as the older style. You can remove it from the pump assembly. Here's some pics of the sender (pass) and sub sender (driver).
