what seats work?

so Im looking to change up the interior in my 93 legacy l. the stock seats suck and dont hold me well when autocrossing.

from searching I hear the wrx seats are great, but are they a direct swap using the stock rails? also what other subaru models have nice chairs? I would assume if the wrx's fit then all subaru seats should fit. right?

Also will changing the seats mess with the auto belts? I would think there still going to work the same. I would convert to the manuel belts but I dont realy mind the auto belts plus if I did convert I would always have that stupid auto belt rail there.

thanks

Oh, and i had to take my lap belt buckles off and put them on the wrx rod (take just the buckle though, if not, the old legacy "rod" will be too long and stick up high.

You have to swap the entire WRX seat in. The rail design is different. You can remove the belt buckle from your seats and put it on the WRX seats. The buckle will be a little higher than it should.

Also the WRX seats tend to raise you up a little more. I did not really notice it much in my Legacy. Cars with sunroofs tend for it to be more noticable.

Sounds good, I guess I'll be picking up some wrx seats in the near future. Will 08 wrx seats fit? Or is it only 02-06? Also what other subaru's have nice seats that will fit in my legacy?

08 will probably also work.

Are you referring to the 2.5 RS rail or the legacy rail & belts?

I'm referring to the stock legacy rail and legacy seatbelt, my bad

Depends on what year. The newer seats have a rail setup that is part of the seat and can't be removed like the older ones. So it depends on what year RS seats you were looking to use.

i was wondering about the 2001 2.5rs seats.

But i am also wondering what year WRX or 2.5 RS seats will bolt in the easiest and with the lowest seating in to my SS?

The 2001 RS seats "may" still have the separate sliders. Someone else would have to confirm.

All the US WRX seats have the bracket/sliders that is part of the seat and can not be removed.

I found some 06 STI front and rear seats. I'm wondering if the 06 seats are an easy swap. from what i've read, the rear sets can be a pain in the ass because you have to smash some metal in on the edges. Will 06 seats be low or high? will they bolt right in relatively easy?

They should bolt in. They will probably sit a little higher than your stock seats. The seat belt buckle will also be raised up a little and not sit exactly where it does with the stock seats.

so I didnt want to wast space and start a new thread.

I sourced out some 05 wrx seats in perfect condition for $300 locally. i can probably even get them a little cheaper. so from what im reading and finding the 05 seats sit up very high in a legacy ss. now mine is a l with no sunroof. i also dont think I have a ajustable hight controll in my exsisting seats. and my steering wheel is a tilt wheel but not ajustable.

how much of a chanllage will it be to mount up these seats? what should i exspct for a hight increase? I am going to need to be able to wear a helmet in the car so will my head hit the headliner? my height is 5'8. also will I have any issues seeing as my steering wheel is not adjustable?

thanks

impreza 08+ uses the 05+ legacy style seat mounting. so stick to pre 07

where are you located? I got a bunch of wrx/sti seats. And i don't think you'll have a problem on the actual bolt in. Its REALLY easy. Even the rears, you'll notice that the little "ears" on the backrest @ bottom won't reach the old bolt hole, but if you look carefully, Subaru was nice enough to tap an additional hole and put a little black sticker thing to cover the hole. Just remove, and voila. As for the fronts, just use the 4 bolts, don't worry about the big 5th one...

So they will bolt right in. But what about my hight issue?

thats a whole nother issue. lol. i'm 6-6'1" and i keep my driver seat to maximum low and seatback reclined, and i'm still pretty close to the ceiling. The passenger seat does not have the height adjustment, so my taller friends are up in the headliner. Even my wife, @ 5'5" is up a ways. Oh and I have a sunroof however so i dont know how much of a difference it will make. If you're around me you can come over and i'll let you swap one of my seats in to see how you like it.

p.s. Mike-Tracy forwarded me an email on cutting up the rails and re welding for a gain of another 1" it looks like. So i'll be trying it soon

thanks for the offer but im a distance away from you.

now if I hack up the rails on the wrx seats this should correct the hight problem problem for the most part. right? also where do you go about cutting them and rewleding the rails? any pics?

now did the legacy ss come with a adustable steering wheel? I know my l didnt, I mean its a tilt wheel but not adjustable.

Just to note, on the L models, I didn't notice a change in the seat height. The SS seats are likely different, but I didn't notice much difference between my stock L seats and the WRX seats. I have a taller torso, so I'm close to headliner, but there's still room.

ThAts just what I wanted to hear! Now when you put seats in your l what wrx seats did you go with? 02-03 or 04-07

Also did you have issue with the placment of the steering wheel? Cause it's not adjustable

Wait, why would the hight of the seat increase in a ss but not a l? Unless the ss seat sat much lower then the l seat, does it?

The SS seats I believe sat a little lower. I think this is primarily due to the fact the SS has a sunroof. The L models did not come with a sunroof. This is speculation on my part, but it makes sense.

Here's pictures of my manual seat belt conversion and WRX seat swap. I used 02-03 WRX seats.
