Looking at buying this car tomorrow and owner doesnt know what is in there. I took some pictures on my phone and i hope you guys can help. It is a DOHC and it is a turbo, but i don't know if its a stock turbo car or was it turbocharged by someone else. On my car it says ej22t on my block, but on this car it says ej20. No "T" after the ej20. Can this be a JDM motor? Please help.

Looks like an ej20g, but I will let someone else that knows all the different numbers bits confirm :)

It's an EJ20G, from the looks of it a WRX version. But sombody has adapted the EJ22T turbo and intake charge pipe.

So is that a better motor than my current car :-D ? ej22t? And is that a JDM? or are you guys saying its a USDM wrx 02-05... How much does a motor like that run? (current car is 94 ss w/ ej22t)

An EJ20G is a JDM motor, from either a Legacy or a WRX. Is it better than a EJ22T? That depends. The heads will flow a bit more, but there is less displacement. The EJ22T is closed deck, whereas this engine is most likely open deck. If it's a WRX EJ20G then the valvetrain design is more advanced as well, but it's hard to tell which one is in the car without a better picture of the valve covers. The EJ20G is also intercooled from the factory, although this one obviously is not intercooled so that's a moot point. The lack of a "T" being stamped on there doesn't mean anything, that's just common parlance, not an actual engine code.

Not to be a dick, but most of this information is available with some searching and googling. The amount of corollary information you'll pick by doing some searching by yourself will be invaluable.

no offense taken. I will have to go look at the valve covers again... Thanks though, that did help. I thought it was USDM wrx that the previous posts were saying.

The throttle body side. What is the thing to the left of the throttle cable? "Divorced IAC"?

Was this a coil on plug set up before being converted to this?

Yeah that is the IAC valve. It is routed under the manifold.

Yes it was coil on plug prior. Was probably converted to a coil pack so it could run the ej22t ECU.

Pretty sure that's the WRX EJ20G and not the Legacy one as well, which is good.
