Easy as pie. I haven't done it yet but I read up on it last night and it's waaay easy by the looks of it.

Pop the plastic moulding from around the hand break and it should be staring straight out at you. 2 adjustment nuts stacked to prevent slippage. Just turn them up and put the moulding back on.

Thats the shorthand from the manual encrypted in Sambonieses.

adjusting handbrake on a 91

Well that sorta depends. I know the older subarus with drum brakes had an auto adjuster. The way it worked is you backed up, and since the pads shifted to put pressure against shoes in reverse, they put a little adjuster clicky thing down where you could expand the shoes, or adjust them. So if they have something similar...then all you have to do is back up and go forward a couple times and your set. If not...then you just have to take the caliper off.....take rotor off...you'll most likely need a puller to take the rotor off, without damaging it. Get one at a parts store...look for one that looks like a three pronged flate metal plate, and comes with various bolts and so forth, there are two screw holes on the rotor you can screw the bolts in and popped the rotor off.

Once you have that off, you should see the parking brake assembly, and there should be a little adjuster to expand the pads out down at the bottom. You'll have to play with it to see how much to expand.....you don't want them rubbing when parking brake is off.

Hope that helps.

Josh

Hmm, there should be a hole in the shield from where you can reach
the adjuster on the brake assembly, there's probably a rubber piece
sealing the hole... have a look before you start pulling parts off.
The adjuster should be possible to adjust using e.g. a flat
screwdriver. Maybe you don't have to worry 'bout that, at least on my
car ('92 wagon) it sorta adjusted itself, like Josh described...

Good Luck!
