Wheel spacers?

I got new wheels for my new ss and they came with 225 tires. The rear rub the spring seat perch on the strut. What are my options? It doesnt seem to rub too much. I think a 1/4 spacer would clear. What is the thickest i can put on there and still be able to use the studs? Should i make the spacers? Where can i get the aluminum and what grade?

hey yazmo, i went with 3mm spacers off ebay. They worked out. The fitment is universal so the spacer has room around the hub but i dont think that it affects anything.

if you go that big, you will need new wheel studs

i believe i went with 25mm and havent had any problems except for the lug key which broke cause its from ebay but the spacers worked well and they were cheap compared to the H&R spacers.

Not to revive a dead thread, but I am looking at getting some 25mm spacers as well with the alternate lug studs. The only thing I am curious about is how do you know if your stock lug nuts will clear the back of the wheel?

The spacers have bigger holes bored so when you bolt the spacer to the hub, the nuts are sunken in past the surface...

i forgot if you use spacers on AWD do you have to use it on all the wheels or is that only if you use big spacers?

never heard/thought about that. I just wanted to put some 25mm spacers in the rear and leave the front the way it is. Is there any problem with that?

well i know your not supposed to run staggered fitment on AWD so i wasnt sure if it applied here as well. hopefully someone well chime in.

If the rotating diameter stays the same, i dont see why it would be an issue... But I'm no expert either.

Florin is going RWD I believe which is why he probably wasn't worried about it. That's the first I've heard about not going staggered on AWD though.

hmmmmm, anyone else have any input. Can you put wheel spacers JUST in the rear?

alright, so i thought about what i said and i dont think spacers constitute as staggering only when using different diameters wheels due to the fact that it will mess with gearing. i am going to be getting spacers in the rear since discount tire once again doesnt pay attention.

So, again with reviving this thread, what kind of spacers did everyone go with? I'm thinking 5mm shouldn't matter at all, but I was kind of more curious if I should be careful with brand and all that. The h&r ones are nice, but for a third of the price I can get ebay ones...
Florin, you went with ebay ones, how were they? I figure that they shouldn't matter too much, but I'm worried about them potentially screwing up balance or something like that, or the lugs being too short, but I guess that's really an issue with how deep they are.

I decided to NOT go with wheel spaces just considering the extra stress it puts on the car. It's kind of like leverage, if the weight/pressure is farther away from the "pivot point" it will create more stress. I can't imagine the 5mm ones being too big of a deal, but I didn't get any so thats about all I can add for now. I don't really see why the brand would matter if its just a spacer, but if you go big (25mm) or so then I would definately get quality ones with the extended lugs built in.

Mine were ok. They were universal so i had to "center" them on the hub and tape them slightly so they wouldn't move when i bolted the wheel on. I believe i went with 3mm. I think you'll need new wheel studs if you go with 5mm. I am now running 19mm on the rear. They're actually adapters.

Thanks for the input guys. I was hoping 5 wouldn't require any work. It's really only to try and make the wheels more flush with the fenders, but if it's going to put strain and i have to replace my lugs it might not be worth it.
