TD04 at an angle, Custom up-pipe.....

I am messing with the idea of leaving the TD04 to TMIC relation the same, and see if I could make a custom up-pipe to fit it. Of course I can fab up the pipe... but the angle of the turbo has to be somewhere around 20-30 degrees, with the compressor side higher....here are the pics http://s848.photobucket.com/albums/ab44 ... %20Legacy/ the question is will the turbo oil correctly? or just have problems...?

From what I've generally read about turbos in general, they like being flat. So I'm not sure it will like that.

I vote no. Why can't you leave it in the stock-level location?

are the turbos in the rotated setups flat/level? some of them look like the compressor housing is sitting kind of up high

Usually not. Garrett recommends their turbos be within ±15° of parallel with the ground. Some people get away with more of an angle, but it is not optimal. A severe angle can cause oil leakage from the real seal, and can hurt spoolup since oil pools at the rear bearing causing drag.

The factory mount turbos on Subarus are not perfectly flat. They sit at a slight angle in stock form. I'm not sure what Mitsubishi recommends for a specification on their turbos.

Thanks guyz, I think its a 15-20 degree angle...
The reason why its not stock angle is because if u look at the pics I am trying to mount the turbo without replumbing the 02 tmic hosing, or fighting the issue of the 90 dgeree tubing that goes to the air filter, which has to create drag or they wouldnt run it under the intake and straight on the newer STIs. this sets the turbo back 4 or 5 more inches..pushing the downpipe close to the firewall. If I angle it slightly, i can get away with usin everything thats stock, except the uppipe which I wanted to upgrade anyways...

What size of upupipe should I use>? 2.5" I think its 2" now

Well it doesn't make any sense to me to go any larger than the exhaust inlet on the turbo, 2.5" seems way big. I think you should keep it at 2
