I just installed a set of EDM headlights (thanks Timo!), which take H4 style bulbs. I got some Philips NightGuides (http://www.lighting.philips.com/us_en/a ... d=&lang=en) , which seem to put a lot of light out to side. I'm not sure if that's the bulbs or the EDM beam pattern though. The 3 colors are only really noticeable when looking directly at the headlight. The high beams are very bright. I'm pleased with these, but next time I might want some less expensive bulbs.

And the high beam indicator is dimly lit when the low beams are on. Maybe this is because of the amperage draw from these bulbs? Anyone else notice this?

What H4 bulbs have you used? Which were good and which weren't?

Also, anyone switching to H4 bulbs might want to check out the pre-wired sockets NAPA sells. They hold the bulb contacts TIGHTLY. http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Detail ... 0193318546

The high beam indicater should not be on at all. You may want to check your wiring.

The EDM beam pattern will put more light out to the side, more to the right to be able to see the shoulder and road signs better.

Yep, I had the high and common wires switched, that's why the high beam indicator was on very faintly. Fixed now, thanks for this diagram and the quick responses.

just wondering but why change the sockets when your putting in H4 headlights? i put PIAA H4 lights in my car and didnt change anything

Pre-facelift (89-91) cars don't use H4 bulbs, so the sockets are a different type.

Yes, the 90-91 MY's have HORRIBLE lights. It literally is night and day difference between the EDM and USDM 90-91 lights. The 90-91's use a 9004 bulb.
