Driver side rear cam seal

Whats the deal with the driver side rear cam seal? Mine is just a rubber plug, nothing seems to be holding it in. There are holes above and below and it looks like the NA engines have a plate that bolts on and holds the seal.

Are the turbo engines really not supposed to have a plate back there? The holes are there for it, why not just buy the part and put it on?

I think mine is leaking and it seems silly to put a new seal in there and expect hopes and dreams to keep it tight rather than the plate.

Do you get any play from the plug in the back? If so it needs to be replaced. My NA was leaking after my rebuild, it had play in it so i went to a local junkyard and saw that they normally don't move at all! its pretty dang tight. bought a plug and the plate you stoke of too. no leaks anymore :)

I'm sure by just replacing the one plug it shouldn't leak any more tho. good luck!!

couple threads i found ;)

Thanks posting the other threads, the search engine on here hates me.

Yeah I think I'll get the plate while I'm at it (Only another $15), I cant see any reason why they would leave it off the turbo.
