Need Input on Mixing my 2 MOTORS 22t 20g "In a Pickle?"

Ok, so this is where i'm at, at the moment. I have my 94 SS in the garage, and taken somewhat apart. I'm in the process of going to my "stage 2" of my build (vf22 520cc rob tune ecu jecs). I figured since i got the car apart, i might as well do my DOHC heads.

This is where it gets Pickleish...
SO i have at my disposal a ~ 98 outback limited i can take anything off the car i want. It is a DOHC n/a. I can also pull the crank and go 2.35L??

My other option is to take my other 91 ss out of commission and pull the heads/manny off that, this car has a swapped ej20g.

SO my questions: Do both heads flow the same? Do both heads give the same comp. ratio? Or is one choice better than the other.

I kinda lean on the 98 OB only because then i can take my sweet time. But if the 20g is the better choice than i can do that too, i just will be car less.

You should do one and sell me the heads and intake from the other one.

If you wish to fab your own PCV and vaccuum lines, then I would keep the EJ20G car together and use EJ25D stuff.

However, if you want a no-fabrication, bolt-on deal- then the EJ20G intake manifold and all accessories is the way to go.

If you have a WRX EJ20G then the heads on a EJ22T shortblock wil give a reasonable compression ratio. Legacy EJ20G heads on a EJ22T shortblock will give a very low compression ratio. EJ25D heads have the same smaller chamber as the WRX EJ20G, but slightly smaller ports.

I kknow you have Rob's ECU tune, but the bore change will make the choice a bit of a comprimise. How bad of a comprimise? No idea, but a larger bore usually needs more timing at low load and possibly more at boost also.

Thanks for chiming in PhyrraM. I was hoping you would. So i too am leaning towards the 25d because that way i have a running car. Do you have any links to what is involved in fabbing PCV and vaccuum lines? I read trough the whole "unspoken details" thread, but there wasn't much there regarding that.

Another question i have about my n/a motor; the car was in a front end collision and the pass side cam pulleys are broken. Is this something to worry about? Is this motor an interference motor?

I would think (and im not 100% sure on this) that if the cam pulleys are busted, there could potentially be a serious problem internally. as far as the cams themselves, the brackets or whatever they're called that secure the cams to the heads could possibly be broken. you should remove the valve cover ifyou haven't already done so and check it out.

or remove the heads and measure everything out and make sure everything is ok.

The first thing you should do is check for damage to the donor engine. I believe the n/a EJ25D is an interference motor. I would recommend pulling that motor and removing the head(s) and checking for valve/piston/cam damage and make a decision based on your findings.

Ok, so after the camping weekend, i will be pulling the 25d motor and cracking it open. In the meantime, since i'm gonna pull my 22t motor to get ir ready for DOHC, it would be a good idea to rebuild the motor, no? Having said that, any links to where i can get seals and rings for a good deal? What else should i replace while i'm in there?
