Neutral and reverse switch

I am going to be pulling my transmission and since my reverse lights don't work, I was going to replace the reverse switch. Also sometimes my car does not ingage the starter unless I wiggle the stick shift....makes me thik that the neutral switch is on the way out maybe.

My question is, can I just go to the junk yard and pull any neutral and reverse switch from any n/a 5mt to stick into my 91SS 5mt?

Also, which years would be interchangable with these sensors as far as connectors and such?

The neutral switch has absolutely zero affect on whether or not the car will start. Unless the stock wiring has been modified, the starter interlock circuit is tied to only the clutch pedal.

Have you done any testing on the reverse lights? You should be able to pull the 4-pin connector plug from the trans, and jumper the two pins tied to the reverse light circuit. If the lights go on, then you know the problem is the reverse light switch I've got diagrams on my site in my AWD & 5spd conversion write-up.

These switches are pretty standard and should work from any manual transmission.

Thanks Josh, I will test the switch like you recommend.

As for the car not starting randomly, maybe it's the starter brushes being dirty again.

It's possible it could be the starter solenoid contacts. Those were the culprit on my starting issues.

I'll have to look into that.

Right now, when it doesn't want to start, it has one click....like it's sending the power to the starter but nothing. If I push the car and pop the clutch just to jerk the engine a little, it will start after that no problem.

Is the starter engaged to the flywheel when the car is off, then retracts, or does it pop out and engage the flywheel when you turn the key, then retaract again?

The starter pops out when you engage the key to the "start" position and then retracts.

Here are some pictures of the starter solenoids and plunger
