Manual seatbelt recoil adjustment?

I just started my manual seatbelt conversion. I finished the passanger side first. I did this using a 95 and up seatbelt mechanism.

Everything worked out fine, except the belt does not want to recoil after use at any resonable rate....you basically need to hand feed it back into the mechanism.

Is there any adjustment you can make to the spring mechanism to increase the recoil strength?

I too was wondering if maybe something can be replaced because both sides on mine won't go in on their own steam. You have to hand feed them like you were saying. It's annoying.

Unfortunately, I think that's the result of old belts. You'd have to take apart the belt mechanism and replace the spring inside, which I don't believe you can even do that. The recoil force is going to be generated by a coiled spring. It is possible it may have broken which is why they don't recoil on their own.

They do recoil if you help them a bit. It's just too weak to do it all by itself.

There may be two springs inside and one may be broken. I think I still may have a set of old belts around that I can look at.

I do too but I also believe they are not serviceable.
