VIN number no longer in system???

I have bought tons of parts for this crapper and never had an issue with the VIN until recently. I called the local dealer and they said there was a problem with my VIN and that it was wrong! I double checked everything and my VIN matches on the dash, the door sill plate and even the stamping on the firewall in the engine bay.
WTF? Anyone have this issue?
Also, I registered the car back in 2005 with no issue, When I was renuing the registration last winter the DMV told me my VIN was not in the system! Their system would not take it without an override. They made me go home and transpose it with the pencil and a piece of paper over the plate to prove that was the VIN.
I have no clue whats going on.

The dealer doesn't run a check against the DMV database, does it? I wouldn't think they would, but maybe to avoid selling parts for stolen cars? The reason I suspect it is that a sudden problem with two different places seems unlikely. Does the old registration document match the VIN on the car or could there have been a clerical error at the DMV? Not that the crack team of asskickers the state hires from their pool of loser friends and family who can't get or hold a real job anywhere else would make a mistake—I mean, there's no way they could fuck up when they only "work" 6 hours a week.

I hate pretty much all government workers—they're overpaid, underworked, surly, and entitled with benefits, pensions, and scheduled raises people with real jobs who do actual work don't get very often if at all anymore. All well and good for them, but they bitch and cry about having to lift a finger for anything and demand pay raises (and get them?!) in an economy where people with masters degrees are working jobs better fit for high school kids. Don't even get me started on the drug addict Boston firemen who just got something like a 12% raise (oh, boo hoo, they hadn't gotten their 3% annual raise in 4 years—and I haven't had so much as a fucking vacation in 10, you pussies!) in exchange for showing up to "work" (play cards 95% of the time) f'n sober (they had to agree to random drug testing, like PRETTY MUCH EVERY OTHER JOB makes you agree to and only because so many of them have been found to have drug problems—including a couple who died in a fire who were high on coke). But, yeah, government debt? Don't cut programs—cut the dead weight by firing all these losers who couldn't find a job in the private sector and hire some people who've been out of work for a while and would be grateful for a job and would do it without a pension or scheduled raise and be happy for it. I know that makes me sound like a raging capitalist, or worse, a teabagger, but I believe in balance and the government workers' compensation for amount of work accomplished is way out of whack with anyone else but athletes, corporate executives, and actors.
And I'm not even mad for myself—besides the lack of vacation (and my job is pretty stress free, so it's not that big a deal), I have it pretty well and I'm thankful for that (it wasn't always this way for me), but other people don't through no fault of their own while these cry babies get decent money, relatively good job security, and rare benefits for barely any work and that injustice pisses me off.
How the hell did I get on that?!

go figure... so today i went to register the car i got from over the weekend. well it only had a reg with no title. so i filled out the necessary paper work, waited in line, then... wait for it... they wont register the car cause when he signed it, the first letter of his signature didnt match the bill of sale. i was livid... over a freaking letter they wouldnt register the car for me. i had to drive 40 mins north to try my luck at another dmv. guess what... i had to get the bill of sale notarized. i was like ur kidding?? i asked where in town can i get it notarized and she said go thru that door. so after that i had felt better. then had to go back to the window praying they didnt see the letter messed up. they didnt even look. got it reg and insured. drove back 40 mins to town to get it inspected. then drive another hr home. i woke up mad early to get it registered. just to get denied cause of a freaking letter. (dmv is an hr away from me)

Steve, I enjoy your anarchist rantings as much as the next guy but lets stay on topic here lol!
I have an update, I called the same, yes folks the SAME dealer yesterday and gave them the SAME VIN and told the guy that answered the phone this time that they had an issue finding it last time I called. He put it in the system and said "yup its here, came right up for me, legacy turbo, yup, what do you need".
Also, as a side note. I called a local yard to ask for a quote "ABS wheel speed sensor, front right for a 94 subaru legacy". The kid says: "ok, 1994, subaru, legacy....does the car have ABS?"
Morons....all of them..... its just me and you Steve, against the world lol

Mike, do you still need something?
I'm actually just a Mazda dealer now (Subaru moved across town), but my catalogue still works, so if you PM me your VIN, I should be able to get you a part number.

More than likely the previous person keyed your VIN into the computer incorrectly....
