Here are 2 pics of my 92 SS with a used GD Group A short shifter.

All that was necessary to make it fit/work was to narrow the pivot mounting point to 20mm, and use the correct size ball end which came with the shifter.

I've got a wood shift knob about the same size and I haven't used anything I've liked better.
