EJ22T and EJ22E parts interchangeability

I'm considering turboing a 97' NA EJ22E by swapping in EJ22T stock cams, pistons and injectors.
Does anyone know if it's a direct fit? Will turbo cams last with the roller rockers?

(I know it's better to just get a 22T, or do a DOHC head swap, but both are over my budget)

Welcome to the BBS.

You would need to use the ej22t fuel rails. I'm not sure about the pistons. The turbo cam profile is not setup for roller rockers, and may produce undesired results.

But it has been done.
You'd be better off swapping to 22T heads though, as yours are most likely single port. You could also then use a factory header/manifold and up-pipe.

Could the rollers increase duration and lift abit? Would this also cause too much overlap negating the purpose of a turbo cam?
I would prefer to just run the 22T heads, but the port mismatch concerns me for a long term dd. I will just Fab a single port uppipe off the stock exhaust.
(I'm also wonder of higher EGT's from a constrictive n/a exhaust)

I'm not exactly sure what the roller rockers will do to the duration and lift, but it will be off. Delta Cams would probably be able to give you a little more info as to what the results may be.

The overlap will also likely hurt the turbo setup.

You will need a larger exhaust. The n/a setup is going to be too restrictive.

Honestly, by the time you do all the little stuff to try and get the car to run properly, you'll end up spending more money and time than trying to just get an older turbo legacy.

Roller followers on a flat-tapped cam will decrease duration. Roller- and flat tappet-followers often have different rocker ratios. I'm not sure whether this holds true for the EJ22 motors, though.
Josh has a good point about finding stock replacement parts being more cost and time effective, in the long run. Also, be aware that you need a turbo-specific front crossmember to run a stock turbo header/up-pipe.

I think your all right with it being more hassle than it's worth. fabbing an entire single port exhaust versus swapping a crossmember seems alot of work, and would probably be more restrictive than a WRX exhaust system anyways. Just gonna try and find a 22t, or just go 20G jdm. I Appreciate all the info
