Dyno and 1/4mi results: Rob's 20G tune on a 22T/25D hybrid

ok, so ive made alot of progress with the car over the past few weeks, got the R180 in, got on a dyno, and went to the 1/4 mile.

Dyno: Land&sea dynomite, stock STi runs 220-225whp
Image

252whp ~280tq 17psi tapering to 13.5 at redline (need bigger turbo) On a mustang dyno, it would read about 15% higher, or around ~290whp.

Footnotes: Car has a huge powerband, and boost comes on fast and hard. My boost taper issue is more then likely the turbo running out of breath in higher rpm's. im planning on going bigger turbo and forged internals next, possibly using a twin scroll GT3076R and building a one off twin scroll header to keep the quick spool up.

1/4 mile: ran at new england dragway in epping NH, about 85 degrees out, running pump 91 oct. Car weighs 3382 with me in it.

RT: .261
60' 1.81
330' 5.45
1/8 8.43
1/8 mph 82.2
1000' 11.02
1/4 13.21
1/4 mph 101.8

Car comes out of the hole HARD. the quick spool and fat tq curve really help to get this thing motivated down the track. Rob's launch control worked awesome, dropped .3 of my 60' the first time i used it.(ran first run without it as a percaution)

Overall, when done right, this hybrid setup WORKS. Im now +7 degrees timing over the base 20G tune, and running 20H cams which are a direct swap into the usdm heads. My valve lash was still in spec after i put the cams in, with no shimming.

Very nice! Good info and a good upgrade path for others.

Damn, that's more than enough for Duchess. I might have to copy your build once this rwd option comes about.

Awesome results Mike. You mentioned there was a Stage2 Cobb '04 STi at the same dyno day. Do you remember how those numbered compared? It would be cool if the dyno owner would let you over lay your results with the stock STi and the stg 2 STi.

I have a couple of questions;

1) Was 5k for the launch control at the sweet spot?

2) How much difference did you notice from the cam change?

3) How 's the knock light activity with the +7 map and on what octatne?

Thanks for posting the results.

-Rob

i think the stage 2 sti made 248hp, not sure on the tq...
the stock sti numbers were from memory of the tuner at the shop...

launch control worked great at the track, no bogging when i let the clutch out.

cam change def changed the exhaust note, car seemed to have more pull all around.

pretty much no knock now with the +7, the light hardly ever blinks. 91 oct gas.

Good to know, very similar setup to me, just I have no solid tune, I hope for similar results with a standalone EMS.

Sweet ride man. Nice power curve too - Love the midrange - speaks well for the chip and the motor combo.

One question is the back-half trap increase. You picked up just under 20mph in the last 1/8mi. I would think you would gain more than that - any idea why? Maybe I'm just off base and 20mph gain is good for this power level, but I picked up 18-19mph with my bolt-on '93 TLeg (VF12 @ 14-11psi, with stock heads/cams and ~240hp at the crank <- dyno proven to be a bit more than a wrx). My results -> 1/8mi = 72mph & 1/4mi = 90-91mph (at 5800' above sea level).

I'm looking forward the Rob ship ECU for myself in the near future :)

i think the mph gain is correct for this power level. My 500whp honda accord gains 29mph in the last 8th... 1/8 is 97 and 1/4 is 124mph.... it takes alot more tq to accelerate from 80mph to 100mph then it does 20mph to 40mph....

Hmm, this is awesome. Makes me really wanna get into a 20G ecu & add my emanage ultimate to that.

Very Nice! Looks like I need to get new heads and a Rob Tune myself, LOL.

Congratulations,

Well this has me excited for my build. I'm honestly surprised at the usage of the 25D heads. Great job for giving many of us on a budget light at the end of the looooong tunnel!!

I'll be staying with a 5sp but installing 20G heads/cams/intake along with modified STi injectors & 16g turbo. Just purchased a V5 20G ECU to be RobTuned until I save up the cash to go with Hydra.
