Limp Mode After Timing Belt Completed

Two weeks back I completed doing a full timing belt job, pulleys, belt, water pump etc. Upon starting the car up and letting it get to operating temperature I went for a drive around the block, everything seemed to run smooth. The "check engine" light is currently blinking at a normal interval, however does not seem to be throwing a code. I have had it scanned and still nothing comes up. The gas mileage is terrible right now 12-13 mpg, above 2,000 RPM's it will somewhat drive normal. I did also take off my muffler to hear the roar of the motor.... My current ideas are:

1. Crankshaft sensor?
2. Removal of the exhaust has thrown something off?
3. Hidden CEL Code that I cannot read?

Your thoughts?

Craig

If there's no CEL I would say it must be off a tooth.

If you use a scan tool to check what timing the engine is at during idle / driving, you could also get an idea if the timing is off from the FSM specifications.

Your CEL shouldn't be blinking at any sort of interval...unless you're running in D-Check mode. Do you know if the green and/or black check connectors under the dash are plugged in? (They shouldn't be unless you're pulling codes or clearing the ECU.)

By the way...what year/model Legacy? That might help too! :)

The black and green connectors are not connected, however the check engine light is still there. I have a 94 5spd turbo. Appreciate the help everyone.

Reset the ECU and see what CEL comes back.

Did you use the BACK mark (correct) or the FRONT arrow (wrong) on the crankshaft sprocket to align the T-belt (common mistake)?

And did you count the teeth on the belt between the driver/pass. side cam gears - not just use the marks on the cover?

Yeah I would think that the timing belt is off a tooth or the marks were not aligned properly.

Today the car finally started throwing code 44 (Duty solenoid valve inoperative.) Could this be from removing the back half of my exhaust?

What part of your exhaust have you removed?

You can test the solenoid by connecting only the green T connectors, and turning the ignition to ON. Go and listen to the wastegate solenoid. It should be clicking. If it's not, you know it's bad.

Any resolve to the issue? I'm also throwing another vote in for timing off a tooth.
