Just finallt got my block apart after my huge white smoke problem. Found a huge hole in the side of my piston behind the ring lands. Question though while pulling my wrist pins one of the access holes was covered by the sleeve. Once I got it all apart it looked like my sleeve had spun. Seen it before? Block dead?

What sleeve are you referring to? Any chance of taking a picture?

I have seen that done when boring a subie block with out the proper boring plate. Never from normal engine issues. That is deffinately a spun sleeve.

Wow! That is a new one. I believe those are cast into the block. I'd say that block is probably dead. You could possibly resleeve it....but not sure you'd want to go through the expense of that.

Yeah, I don't see how that can be cost effectively repaired. I imagine that was a manufacturing fault.

my buddy regan has pulled a couple apart that looked like that and as others have said the block is pretty much done with out spending a lot of money getting it fixed

a quick search online and some one was talking about putting dry ice in there to try and shrink the sleeve then trying to spin it back into position as a temp fix, not to sure if it would work or not

You'd probably also want to heat up the block, but I wonder what would stop it from happening again. I suspect tolerances were too loose in the first place.

they spin the sleeves when the motors get severely overheated, i've seen it happen on a couple 2.2t's. the only way to fix it is bore out the sleeve and have new sleeves pressed in

NO!!!!

You can totally assemble a block with a spun sleeve, you just drop the piston in with the rod, then bolt the rod to the crank, then continue....

That was my thought too. I am going to use another block I have and waiit on this one.

if you look at his photos you can see the two different positions the sleeve has been at while running
the dark rectangle is factor position where the motor was run for years and the oil has stained the wall
then the lighter rectangles are where the sleeve has spun to and the oil has not had a chance of staining the walls yet
