the leds for this are very small. not sure if they are solderd in or they can be pulled out. there is one led for each button except the off button and then 2 more for the fan speed and temp control.

The LED's on the buttons I don't think you can change. However there are light bulbs that go in the back of the HVAC control unit and provide the green backlighting.
From the owner's manual it looks to be a 12v 1.4W bulb. Here's the scan

Here's pics of the back of the control unit. There's two bulbs.

Those pics look very helpful. The two bulbs in the back do you know if they will change the color to the whole set up? My owners manuel shows the same thing but they also give a part number with some of the bulb but not the ones i want to know. I am really looking for the part number because i want to order leds from online and thats what i need to use to find the right part.

The bulbs should change the color for the entire HVAC unit, minus the LED's for the buttons. They are just standard bulbs with green condoms on them.
As for the part #'s, I don't have one, and can't find the spare HVAC unit I have. Maybe someone has one and can pull the bulb out and see if there's a part # on it.
What I'd suggest is maybe going to the autoparts store with the wattage info and see if you can match up a bulb with the wattage and get the part #.
