I was out at a local wrecking yard today and I found this beauty...

I was so excited to find one and in a wrecking yard too, my first thought was maybe I can buy it from the yard and take it home but that quickly tunred to depression because when I asked, I was told the state patrol sent it there with orders to be destroyed :(. I'm still semi upset about it because you can't touch an xt turbo and heres one that has to be destroyed... it just kills me inside as I have a soft spot for two door subaru sports cars and this one has air suspension, is a five speed, its super rare, and its got a turbo... Just makes me sad to find it and know I can't have it.

the rear diff may be a real LSD, worth grabbing IMO

Would the rear diff be 3.9 to match my auto? Or am I outta luck?

Probably 3.7. I wonder why it's been given a death sentence. What crime can a car commit? Good to know they're priorities are straight. How many pedophiles will they release from prison while that car awaits the crusher? Street racing seizures in some places are supposed to be destroyed, but that doesn't seem likely here.

If that rear diff is LSD, you should grab it even though the ratio is wrong (it's 3.70). The clutch diff will fetch you probably $300-$400. It's an easy swap to change that LSD to work with a 3.90 diff.

Now I have some questions. Can I use the door handles, hood scoop, gauge cluster, interior switches, seats, mirrors, areo deflectors/ mud gaurds, intake parts related to turbo, exhaust parts related to the turbo, and how hard would it be to switch the rear diff to 3.9 if its LSD? Would this motor be a good platform to swap into a '66 bug or the 1.8 from the Impreza next to it?

I'd rather have that EJ18 than the EA82 turbo. Stock torque is better with the turbo, but horsepower is about the same. The air deflectors could probably work and the handles modified to fit, but the shape of the door handles are different so you will have to at least do some bodywork, perhaps play with the rods inside the door. They're interesting door handles and I thought of them myself for my project vehicle, but need something smaller that can be used to pull a sliding canopy. Everything will have to be custom. You MIGHT be able to use the shifter. I had a pistol grip auto on my auto GL wagon and it bolted right in (well, very close, but the shifter could skip through neutral to reverse from drive without depressing the button as the engagement was just a little loose. Luckily, the transmission wouldn't try to shift into reverse when moving forward). A manual could more easily be made to work if that's what you have, I'm sure.

So th shifter from the xt(manual) can actually be modded to fit my car(auto)? The xt is push button 4wd so theres a button on top that I can use.

I can't answer that. Best bet would be to pick it up and give it a try. All I can relate to is my EA81 GL, which had a T-handle with the side button. The side button contacted a bullet shaped button at the top of the shift lever and pushed it down to unlock the shifter. The XT auto button was on top, like an old fighter plane control stick and gun trigger, but just pushed down straight on the metal lever. Both screwed in to the lever with a small screw on the side.

if they're crushing that i'd take a battery powered cutting wheel and cut out those 4WD TURBO stickers on the doors and keep them as a keep sake (Since they're not trying to sell you the car)

I already have the front badge and to my suprise, its metal. I was expecting plastic like every other badge I have. For keep sakes I figure the center garnish would make a nice one, maybe the door handles, mirrors, steering wheel, and misc. smaller lights too( back up lights, front blinkers, and markers). Anyone else got ideas for keep sake items. And something I thought about today was, writing a note about this xt and putting it on the other one I see in town so the owner of the other one knows of this parts source.

Well I'll be going out to the yard that has this today so I'm going to look at the rear diff, and see if the front seats will fit in the Impreza next to it. For some reason I really like the way the front seats feel.

I just read on a xt6 partout add that the manuals are 3.9 so does this mean I'm in luck if this xt has an lsd?
