Clutch is starting to slip on the Impreza

Well after 161,000 miles on what is probably the stock clutch, it's losing the battle to my driving style. Having not done a push style clutch setup before, I just wanted to see if there's anything else I may need.

I'm probably just going to get another flywheel vs. resurfacing the old one. Will pick up an Exedy clutch & pressure plate. Also plan to put on the tranquil sleeve and throw out bearing, and put in a new pilot bearing.

Do I need to purchase any of those stupid little clips separately, or are they going to come with the throw out bearing?

Any other advice/suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

When i did my act push clutch, i didn't notice anything extra needed. It came with the simple throw out with the "claw" built in and pilot, pp, disk. Heck its easier because no clutch fork rod thing.

Exactly. The push clutches are way less involved really (not that the pull style is hard).Even if you dont acquire a new clip, there is not likely to be any reason not to use the old one, Its just a bent piece of wire and as long as not damaged will be fine.Might as well do a rear main seal and pcv cover reseal while your at it though.

Yeah that's true, forgot about the main seal. If the rear separator is metal, I'll probably leave it. Not sure when they went to the metal one though.

Josh,
Check THIS POST and you'll see the Tranquil kit comes w/clips and my install (@ least I think that's what you're asking??). I bought mine from smart-service.com (they actually reduced prices recently). Also comes w/Grease for pivot ball.

I also bought the fork boot...mine crumbled into pieces when I was messing w/it.
P/N: 30542aa040 - 1998 Forester- boot for clutch fork - was for my Foz <$20.

I've also read where the fork itself can crack, but mine was fine on the 2 Subaru's I've put the Tranquil kit on.

There have been 2 metal rear separator plates...that I've seen. One is the old style w/screws; the new one comes w/allen-head bolts:
- rear separator plate and bolts/screws:
11831AA210 (1PC), 800406140 (5PCS) AND 800406150 (1PC).
- rear main seal (for a '95 EJ22): 806786040

I've read not to touch the rear main unless wet since they're kind of a pain to install.....I'll find out if my Forester's been leaking after I replaced it when I pull the engine this weekend (back to stock-I gave up on tuning).

GL,
TD

Thanks Todd.

When I get time I'll mess with the Impreza. For the time being I just need to not abuse it so much ;)

You might want to get the clip for the pivot ball (30534AA001 SPRING RELEASE LEVER). If it's never been replaced it could be rusty or something. For less than $6 I think it's worth the peace of mind.

What exactly does that clip do? I'll have to try and find a picture...

Josh, didn't you have a bad experience last time you tried the tranquil kit? Someone posted that it didn't work so well.

Yeah, it was me. I attribute that to me frankensteining WRX parts together with turbo legacy parts. I'd have to see a WRX trans snout to see if it sits back slightly further than the turbo legacy one.....but my guess is that's why I had the issue.

Assuming I stick with all stock stuff on the Impreza, I should be fine. I've heard good things about the Tranquil kit otherwise.

The clip just retains the lever in course positioning while under no pressure.Basically makes it stay in alignment with the pivot ball.
