Is 2wd Automatic and AWD automatic same on 90 legacy?

I have a 1990 legacy AWD and the automatic transmission is out? Can I swap in one from a 2wd model. I found one much cheaper than the AWD version. Someone said they are the same except the 2wd one has something over the cover for the AWD.

As I mentioned I think on one of the other forums, the simple answer is no, you can't swap things without a lot of work.

cool, I will just find a AWD tranny then. The guy with the 2wd tranny evidently had no idea what he was talking about. He tried telling me there was an inspection cover on the 2wd where I guess would be similar to a transfercase and that you could just remove the inspection cover and swap the rest over and bolt it in.

He was wrong.
Here's some blow up pics of the two transmissions. You can see the driven shaft is hollow and then goes to the center diff, and then the pinion shaft goes through the driven shaft to the diff.
