What transmissions fit?

So, I have a broken first gear in my 92 Legacy Turbo. I need to find a used tranny, what will fit?
Am I correct in assuming pretty much any post 91 subaru tranny with a 3.90 final drive will bolt in? Will I run into durability issues with, for example, and tranny from a 1.8l impreza? Thanks guys

Id stick to turbo legacy transmissions and wrx transmissions even better look into a 6spd preferably a non-dccd but you can get a dccd tranny and a cheap controller.

6spd is NOT gonna be cheap.
I'd try to find a turbo tranny or WRX.
I've been told the L transmission is fine too, but the PO put one in mine and it's not holding up well, couldn't tell you if it was the car that did it or just a bad tranny

Try to find a 91-94 turbo legacy transmission as it will be a direct drop in. The non-turbo transmissions in the same final gear ratio will fit, but you'll have to alter the clutch setup to the "push" design. It's not a big deal, but needs to be done.
If you go with a WRX trans, you will need to swap out the rear diff as the WRX trans has a 1.1:1 final gear reduction in the rear transfer gears. Also, there some differences in the starter mounting/bolting.
