VIN question

Just bought our 10th subaru as our youngest just turned 16 (we currently have 5 in our family, subarus that is, not kids)! We picked up a 94 AWD 5spd wagon from the original owner with 104k on the clock and maintained according to schedule (timing belt was just done). This car looks like an L wagon, but the VIN number keeps coming back as an "Alpine" wagon. This car has little frills (no sun roof, no cd player, no heated seats). Anyone have insight? thanks

The VIN usually won't includes specific trim information unless it directly relates to a feature of trim level. (Such as the turbo motor for the SS). Is your wagon a raised roof model? If so, that is likely the reason for the VIN--not the trim package.
What source are you using to decode the VIN? It's possible the decoder might not be accurate.

VIN came decoded with the Alpine designation from the state and my insurance company. I do not have the raised roof.

Welcome to the BBS.
Here's info on decoding the VIN.

You can find specific trim package info towards the front of the parts catalog if you want to d/l it and compare the info in there to your VIN.
