Currently we have an 08 Forester, I've been looking for and putting $$ aside for a second subaru, from 92 Leg GTs to Impreza OBS to SF Foresters.. when I came accross this local ad..

Anything specific I should check out when I go see it?
Anything I should know about these before bringing it home?

even though it says it's AWD, it's just part time 4wd. it normally will be in Front wheel drive mode, and there's a pushbutton on the shifter to go into 4wd (no center diff).

check for records of prior maintenance. timing belts, cooling system, etc...
this will have the 1.8 EA82 engine, and will feel pretty anemic compared to any new gen soob.

lots of people dislike this engine, but if properly maintained can last a long time...

the add says rust around fenders... be sure to check the frame rails...

also, the pics in the ad are "example" pics of a silver wagon. the one for sale is white with blue interior....

These are rustbuckets as he said. A friend of mine who works as a technician at a Subaru dealership told me these constantly sprout oil leaks, more so than the newer models. 1.8L motor with 90 HP. No real upgrades available (such as suspension or brakes) if you want better than 21 year old stock parts.

I have friends who have had these loyales in the past;
one said to look for leaking at the Radiator seams and the other said to watch for oil leaks, his took 1L / tank of fuel!

They would both get another if they had a chance.
