Hey there, i have a 1994 Subary RFRB got a EJ20TT, recently i was driving along and the turbos have shit themselves, i took it to the mechanic who has told me that the turbos and top of the engine are not receiveing oil. so the primary turbo has gone completely and the secondary is on the way. he recommended a new engine as the best option but as ive recently had a rebuild (apx 10000k ago) i have decided to strip it down myself.

Basically im wondering if anyone has ideas as to problems/ solutions based on what i know. currently ive got the top half of the engine including the turbos off the car and am not sure how to preceed as should i start pulling the block apart.

Cheers Noob!

Welcome to the BBS.

I would start by trying to determine why there was a lack of oil. If you've got the heads off the motor you can look at the cylinder bores to see how things look. It's hard to say how the bearings will look. They should have had more pressure since they're closer to the pump, but who's to say they are good. It'd be a shame to not check/replace them, put the motor back together and have issues shortly down the road.

From what ive seen so far there seems to be alot of rubber in and around the engine block where the oil is.. have stripped only down to the block so far as i am waiting for an engine hoist the remove it.
Like rubber or someother slimy black gunk. i think this may have blocked the oil passabgeways to the turbos?! does this sound right?

It could be rtv silicone that was used to seal something in the motor.
