I saw this Saab today at a local wrecking yard and its got headlight wipers with sprayer nozzles built in, I would love a set on my car but I'm not sure how hard to add the wipers are. Heres some pictures of the Saab.



So, basicly, I'm wondering how much work would it take to add the wipers pictured above to my 93 and is it even possible as I've never seen a Subaru with headlight wipers. I took a look in the car and it looks like all the wiring is still there so I can get a full harness from stalk to wipers and figure something out if its do-able and practial. Side note and off topic, I'm $100 away from following in Florin1s footsteps and retrofitting projectors (from a 2004 cougar) in my car .

Well it will take some work of course since they didn't come on our cars. You'll probably have to mount them to the bumper beam after doing some cutting so i would suggest getting a spare bumper and beam so you can trial fit and decide if you like it. Just make sure you take the time a think about how you are going to aproach this. Come to think of it, it there is space behind our bumper and beam it probably sits parallel and you will just have to make a bracket to secure. Just remember your taking the structural integrity out of the bumper. Good luck and interested to see the results if you go for it.

The physical mounting probably wouldn't be too hard but getting everything wired would be the biggest issue for me. I definatly want to give it a shot so I can do something I've never seen done before and, it would be really nice to no longer need to wipe the lights off after playing in mud. I'm thinking for wiring just wire them into the windshield washer circuit so they ran it time with the main wipers only while the washers were going, just seems to make sense right now but it is midnight and I am getting tired so that could be why it seems to make sense, lol.

Wiring into the windshield sprayer button is what I was thinking too.

I actually had a better idea wiring wise but its much more invloved. Get a wagon stalk and use the rear wiper controls for the headlight ones, that way I would have the option of just running them in the rain without using fluid. I would probably need a wagon fluid tank too, I know the outbacks have two pumps and one tank so that would probably work pump wise and tha wagon stalk would give it more of a unique look interior wise. If I give this a shot I think I'll go wagon stalk and a tank with two pumps so then I don't rise screwing up my windsheild wipers if something goes wrong.

You'll want glass headlights. Especially with mud on the lenses, the plastic will get scratched to hell. It's a big reason windshields are a glass laminate and not plastic (like polycarbonate), which is much lighter and excedes all ANSI windshield specs (except for UV degradation, but I know my glass windshields don't last any longer than the plastic would take to yellow before they either get cracked or sandblasted into a driving hazard).

Unless it comes up higher than the pre-facelift cars, I don't think you'd have to do much to the bumper beam since there's a fair gap between the bottom of the headlight and the beam you could pass it through, though the angle might be a bitch. Anything you'd have to do to the beam would be minimal.
