hey guys just wondering if i spun a bearing what the max i could take off before it loses its strength. ive heard you can get undersized bearings. how strong will the crank effectively be after machining and micropolishing? could it withstand say 300whp?

ive done research but nothing found on how strong a crank will be after machining if it loses any strength at all

I don't think that you could say a crank will fail at xx HP with oversize bearings. From my research it isn't a good idea to run a ground crank in our cars, and a friend of mine had his worked on crank snap in half, at around 220WHP. There were several issues at play, but it happened on a ground crank.

thanks for that info. seems like it wasnt a "ton" of power that made it snap either. arent the cranks forged?

Yes, the cranks are identical between the turbo & non-turbo 2.2 engines. You can look at the parts book....it's the same part #.

what i was possibly thinking was to offset ground the crankshaft journals for more stroke since our rod length is limited. any thoughts?

That would just compromise the crank pretty bad in the boxer motor
