Just checkin in, as I can tell I'll be needing the information on this forum. I just recently bought, a '94 Legacy LS; AWD, and Automatic.
It's a well maintained vehicle, interior is in fairly good shape, all power options, fully loaded car.
It's a dark blue color, with a hint of grey almost. Original paint as well.
even has good tires.

I picked it up for 800.

I test drove it, and everything felt right, transmission down shifted normal and it would change gears normal while driving. the kid i bought it from, said he had to have the clutch bands replaced? Because at some point, he couldn't get it to go up a hill, and it was smoking and making a terrible smell. I know what your thinking, catalytic converter, well it wasn't. as the exhaust is brand new as well.

I'm hoping to find out what my best options are, in regards to a transmission failure. This will be my first subaru, but I plan on owning more in the future.

Thanks in Advance, Rich.

Welcome. From your description, sounds like the tranny is low on atf and may be leaking it slowly. Mine leaked at the rubber hoses that go to the radiator (drivers side). Once I got a good seal the trans worked a bit better, but still wasn't new car feel, lol.

Well if it does go south you can do a 5spd swap! :) Welcome to LC. Got any plans for the car other than fixing it?

I would love to do a 5spd Swap, But unfortunately I'm most likely sharing this car with my mother, so a standard vehicle is not an option, and she refuses to even learn to drive one.
So for now, I've gotta keep it running as is, and when she gets another vehicle, I'll do something fun with this.

I would like to Rally cross it, but I'm not sure if there is any organizations that do it around here.

I do plan on upgrading the car, exhaust, intake, better tires, forester suspension swap, a decent sound system.

I really like the car, for an early 90's car, It's very well made, and I think the interior looks better than that of any other import sedan of the time.

Anyone got any recommendations as far as exhaust, tires and intake?
