so havent found any good threads on this. i have fwd and manual. i want to redo all the shifter bushings and dont fell like trying to bust my hands open so i figured given the simplicity of my vehicle, forgot non-turbo also. this should be a fairly easy job even by myself. i have access to lifts and tranny jacks and whatever else i may need. when i do this is there anything i should do while i have it out. the car has 254XXX miles and i have had it for almost 5 years and it has never been flushed just changed. i was thinking taking the pan out and cleaning it aswell.
oh and how hard would it be to replace the rear seal in the motor while the tranny is out. also this is a cable clutch car.

The rear main seal is easy to replace when the tranny is out, just take off the pressure plate/clutch, then the flywheel, and there it is. Also, i would change the oil seperator plate with the tranny out. If you find you have the plastic one still, replace it with the newer style metal one as the plastic ones are prone to cracking. As for the "pan", are you referring to the oil pan because the manual trannys don't have a pan like the automatics would. But, you should change the gear oil. Also, check on what kind of shape your clutch/flywheel are in because while you have all this apart, you might want to replace your clutch and have the flywheel resurfaced.

Ok I wasn't sure if there was one for the tranny. Will not be replacing the clutch but I will keep in mind the separator plate. That is good to know about the seal.

The 90-91 MY's had a metal oil separator plate. If it isn't leaking by now, it should be fine to leave as is.

You don't need to remove the transmission to change the shifter bushings. The exhaust may be the only thing in the way, but you should be able to work around it. I'd suggest upgrading the entire linkage & joint. Check out this thread for more info.

Already did it but think I'm going to stick with the stock shifter. Once I get all the brushing I should be quiet happy.
