High temp wire braid/loom

I'm looking for some type of sheath or protective wrap that will go around the wires that I am running to the oil temp sensor. They will pass very close to the exhaust manifold, and I'd like to try and make sure they are protected from the heat.

I don't know if there is braided steel stuff or something similar to what is used over the O2 sensor wire. Anyone have some suggestions?

Thanks

Or something like this from DEI. I wish I knew where they got it from, because they get an arm and a leg for it.

I'm using some DEI stuff: http://www.designengineering.com/catego ... /cool-tube

It's expensive, but on the upside no melting yet. It makes the engine bay look like an Apollo mission too.

The cheap version is to take the heat wrap off of the power steering lines on a junk yard Subaru. Same stuff.

The really cheap version is to wrap the wire in fiberglass and cover that with aluminum tape. Works the same.

Thanks Dan, I'll have to see how long of a shield I'll need and go from there.

I forgot that Aeroquip makes a nice firesleeve. http://www.aeroquip.cc/aeroquipracingfiresleeve.aspx

That site has great prices on all things related to fluid conveyance

Also, I just ordered some of this silicone tape, since I had to order a bunch of other fittings. Seems like it should make nice home-made heat shield.

Josh, maybe you should tell them you want a life outside of work? lol  Because I have all the time in the world to work on my car. Sounds like your negotiating skills could use some work..............................

Well it hasn't all been work. I was in Montreal for a week on business then was in Portugal for a week and half for vacation, and just got back from California last weekend after attending my grandfather's funeral. It's just been a busy month or so. I don't have any travel plans for June........yet.

I think I'm going to end up going with this stuff:

I only need about 3 ft or so. The plan is to run the wiring in a standard wiring loom and put this stuff over the top of the loom. I'll probably zip tie the ends to keep it from moving around.

Those prices for loom is ridiculously cheap compared to going to the store. I'll probably buy some when my stock gets low. Thanks for sharing!

Here are some pics of the sleeving I got. I'm probably going to pull it back out and trim a little bit and find some aluminized tape to wrap the end by the oil pan.
