Pretty low miles. Damn that thing is in good shape! Are you keeping the drivetrain the same?

well for a swap i want the GL-10 Sec. i'm think FWD also, if a honda can do it why not my subaru. or i could get crazy and swap all my legacy stuff in it.

the main reason why this car is becuase in ontario its a classic and 1986 is the last year it needs a emission control test. so i could go insane with it and they cant say a thing !

Just so you know, that EA is a 3-bearing bottom end, IIRC smaller bearing sizes, with horrible heads and twin timing belts. Dropping an EJ22 N/A would be a better start if you want to make a performance car out of it. The EA81s were ohv and they were neat in that they had a gear driven cam.

You can forget the EJ22 NA idea then. What does it weigh? Do the toyota trans bellhousing adapter swap for RWD!

I echo Kimo's sentiments—Toyota R154 to a Ford 8.8 rear end (if that can fit in there, but this is the drivetrain I'm using for the car I'm building though that will have less power and weight so it's all overkill, which is also what I want). With the Ford, you can handle a lot of power and have an assload of options for FD ratios, types of LSDs, and they're readily available. They come in live axle, independent, and front axle (reverse gear direction, which also means you could flip it and use it as a rear diff if you need the driveshaft to come in at a different angle). I read about someone fitting one of these to a Subaru, but it was part of an LS1 swap and got abandoned. I'd like to fit the 8.8 to Duchess as well when I go rwd. I want an indestructible drivetrain to handle whatever I'd want to do with the engine. I think this should all be cheaper for you as well, though money doesn't seem to be an issue for you. Of course, there's also the Ford 9" if you feel you need even more durability.

Yeah I would just restore that thing. It's in such great condition I wouldn't want to mess with it. Keep it 100% stock and find another one to swap. Take that engine apart and rebuild it and clean each piece up to look new. That would be fun and cool to have.

Yeah, those old digital dashes are cool. Now. The XT with the digital dash was even more fitting.

Nah, if you're going to go to all the trouble of swapping it you might as well get an STI donor. Go big or go home.

I vote keep it stock and restore the underbody and engine bay. Take the engine out and transmission and probably everything under the car and sand/repaint it all.

If you want to go fast in a Subaru, buy a 98-2001 Impreza 2.5 RS and do an STI swap. Dont butcher a clean 1986 !

Wow that's a cleaning job !!!

But guys you don't now I have a problem !! I can't have a car that is slow it drives me nuts I refuse to drive it. It would be insane with a full swap and 500hp ! Might even take all my legacy stuff out and swap it over !

Good lord man! Keep it stock! With decent struts and springs, that car is so much fun to drive, even if it is slow as hell. I would never have gotten rid of mine, had it not gotten into a scuffle with a brick wall (R.I.P.) Restore it, dont butcher it. That is vintage Subaru that doesn't need to be tampered with.
