96 impreza tranny in 93 legacy?

So I am in need of a new transmission but since I have the budget of a kid still in high school I have been looking on craigslist for deals. The first one I bought crapped out 2 weeks after I swapped it in so I am a little skeptical now but still trying. Anyway I found one out of a 96 AWD 2.2l auto impreza which is the same as my 93 legacy. Also comes with torque converter, rear driveline and rear diff(which I take it those won't work but I don't need them replaced anyway). The CL post said it had 45,000 on a professional rebuild so I supposed it sounds good but doesn't mean it is. So if you guys could get back to me with any info or opinions that would be great. Thanks

if the ratio is different you will need a matching diff for the trans and the diff will fit

So to even make that work I would have to find a front diff with the impreza ratio

Either get the matching front diff or move a few parts from the blown legacy transmission to the newer transmission.
The trans in my 92 legacy is from a 95 impreza that had 95k miles on it. It's been a year and a half on revtronix stage 2 and still holding up.
I have air tools but the only special tool I had to locate to do the swap was a large socket, 33 or 35 mm. I don't remember, just that it was BIG.

What parts could I take out of the blown one to make it work?

even the casting is different, the 99+ transmission are stronger. I think all the bearing sizes are different as well, but it will still bolt up to your engine.

Damn, missed it by a year. Keep searching craigslist, you'll find something to get that suby back on the road.
